Zero tolerance policies are enforced for violations of school rules under both the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504. However, exceptions exist for students with disabilities, taking into account specific considerations.

The disciplinary measures that may be applied include:

  • In-School Suspension: This keeps the student within the school environment while temporarily removing them from the regular classroom setting.

  • Short-Term Suspension: Defined as removal for 10 days or fewer.

  • Long-Term Suspension: Defined as removal for up to 45 days.

  • Expulsion: Removal from the school for an extended period, subject to further discussion.
