In ABA, stereotypy or repetitive behaviors become a concern when they interfere significantly with learning, social interactions, or daily functioning.

The approach often involves identifying the function these behaviors serve—such as providing sensory stimulation or a form of self-regulation—and determining if they become excessive or disruptive.

If these behaviors limit the individual's ability to engage effectively with their environment or learn new skills, intervention strategies are typically introduced. These strategies may include teaching alternative behaviors that fulfill the same needs but are more socially appropriate or less disruptive.
