State’s Requirements for Secondary Transition: Age of Initiation

Transition planning must begin no later than when the student turns 14 years old. This is earlier than the federal requirement, which typically begins at age 16. The purpose is to ensure ample time for planning and implementation of necessary services and supports (Texas Education Agency) (ESC Region 13).
